Favorite book –now and when you were a kid?
I didn’t really like reading until I was in high school. The one exception to this was a book called The Westing Game, which I read when I was about 10. I carried it everywhere while I was reading it but I don’t really remember what it was about. My favorite book now is Bluets by Maggie Nelson. It’s a poetic essay all about the color blue.

First album or single you ever owned, how old were you and what was the appeal?
The first album I can remember choosing for myself in a store is *NSYNC’s No Strings Attached. I liked the cover a lot and I can remember seeing the videos (although the video for “Pop” off their next album is still a favorite).

Favorite place in the world and why?
I really like being in big open spaces so desert areas like Joshua Tree and the salt flats in Utah are nice. I tend to feel at ease in these places. Driving through them as well.

Your most treasured possession?
It’s probably my computer. I try my best to keep it backed up properly but if I somehow lost everything on it I’d feel pretty defeated.

Biggest guilty pleasure?
Smash Mouth. After my *NSYNC phase I bought every one of Smash Mouth’s CDs as it came out and I still stand by (most of) them today.

If you could learn anything instantly by downloading it into your brain Matrix-style, what would it be?
Probably Spanish. I keep trying to learn it but I tend to get distracted about a month into doing so.
